'London to Brighton' Film Poster Research- Candice Tyson

Representation

• The top image is of a little girl and a women that we could assume is the girls mum. While the little girl appears to be care free the mother is placed at the front of the shot smoking a cigarette and looking deep in thought. This represents the difference in age- adults tend to worry about the future and life is taken a lot more seriously while children take everyday as it comes without a care in the world. 
• The second image down from the top is of the little girl sitting in the bathroom. She appears frightened and weak- another representation of age. Children are always looked down upon by adults as they are young and have less life experiences. The girl in this image fits the stereotype as she looks weak and submissive- the sort of outlook adults have on children.
• The tagline below the title says 'innocence has nowhere to hide' This fits the photo of the girl in the bathroom as she appears to be hiding and looks very frightened. The word 'innocence' repeating the stereotype for the young character.

• The last image at the bottom of the poster is of a male character holding a large gun. His weapon presents him as being dominant and powerful. This is common for films as male characters are stereotyped as being the more dominant character in films, while the female character is often made to be the submissive character.
•  In the image with the male character the colors are dark and there appears to be a red tone to the overall picture. The red represents danger and not only that but represents the male character as dangerous, applying the stereotype once again.

Narrative

• The title 'London to Brighton' doesn't give us as an audience any hints to what the film is about. However it does give us an idea of where the film is set and that the setting must be in London and Brighton.
• The tagline presented below the title says 'innocence has nowhere to hide', although this gives nothing away about the plot it hints the fact the film could be about a young character as this idea is also supported by the photo of the innocent and frightened looking girl on the poster.

Audience

• The target audience for this film I would say is generally 15+ as the image of the male character holding the gun tells us there is violence within the film. The colours aren't bright and bubbly and the sans serif text gives a serious overall feel to the poster, which isn't something that would generally attract a younger audience.
• 'London to Brighton' as a thriller is a film that attracts both the male and female market as it is a genre that both sex's enjoy, rather than an action film that would attract more of a male audience or a romance that would attract more of a female audience. 

Genre

• The genre for this film is said to be a crime/drama/thriller. The aspects supporting the crime genre of this film is the low key lighting ,creating a dark and fearful mood. In addition, the photo of the male character holding the gun supports the crime genre as it makes this particular character threatening and dominant.
• The drama genre is also supported through the photo's shown, in particular the photo of the male character holding the gun as this sort of setting is bound to create drama within the film. In addition, the photo of the young girl sitting on the toilet shows us something quite dramatic is taking place within the film.

Media Language

• The title is presented in a sans serif font- gives a serious mood to the poster
• awards presented next to the title- will attract an audience as the awards mean it must be a good film
• The tagline is presented in small letter just under the title- leads your eyes to the tagline straight after reading the title but doesn't distract.
• colours used set a fearful, chilling and dark mood.
• Quotes and ratings give the film a good appearance to those looking at the poster- draws in attention.
• Actors names used to attract people that enjoy watching a particular actress or actor .

What I like about the poster-

I particularly like the colours used in this poster and the way they set a chilling mood to work with the thriller genre. The colours I use in my poster will be something I look at in depth as it is really effective in creating a certain mood and feel to a poster. Another aspect I liked about this poster was the use of pictures and how they are slightly distorted fitting with the thriller genre.

'Alice Creed' Film Poster Research- Candice Tyson

Representation

• Gender in the film poster of 'The Disappearance of Alice Creed' is represented quite stereotypically. We as the audience straight away assume Alice Creed is the girl in the large image shown at the top end of the poster. As the title is about the 'disappearance' of Alice this tells us she is a victim. A female victim is something we see in a lot of films making it a stereotype. The lighting in addition to her quite blank facial expression makes it difficult as an audience to know how she is feeling. 
• The male characters are represented as the antagonists as they are both holding a gun and guns are presented to be threatening and used by criminals. However, we don't know whether they are out to hurt someone or as defense and they are protecting someone, but we as the audience assume they are bad and they are the antagonists. 
• A male antagonist is also stereotypical as male roles in a film are often more dominating than those of a female. Male characters in film are often presented as being more powerful than women, that is why its more likely we would see a male with a gun in a film poster than a women, as shown in this poster. 
• We are unable to determine the class of these characters as it is not clear exactly what the characters look like, how they dress or where they come from in this poster.

Narrative

• Strauss' theory of binary oppositions works in this poster with the female character being the submissive character and the male characters being the dominant characters, it is a traditional view used in most films. Other examples of binary oppositions used in films are, good and evil, strong and weak, and the list goes on.
• The theme of the film is communicated through the title. The title gives us a clue that the film is about a kidnapping , giving the theme of crime and death.  There is a red and black theme throughout the poster, in the title and in the girls jumper. This could symbolise death and evil as these colors are often used to communicate these sorts of themes.
• Part of the story is revealed through the quote  'twist after twist... a scorching kidnap thriller', this tells the audience the main plot of the film is a kidnapping. 

Genre

•   The genre of this film is a crime thriller. The conventions of a thriller used in this poster is firstly the low key lighting, this is used particularly on the image of the girl who we assume is Alice Creed. The props of the guns also tells us that its a thriller as weapons are often used in thriller films to make them more exciting and to build suspense. The red and black theme fits the thriller genre as the red represents death and evil while the black represents darkness.
• The images and text are slanted. The image of the two men and their guns create enigma for us as an audience as the slant of the image makes us question who are they shooting and why?

Audience

• I feel the audience targeted by this film is mixed as there is a mix of male and female characters in the film and on the poster. Also, thrillers often target a mixed market as it is a genre that both male and female will enjoy. Where as for an action film its majorly males that are attracted to this genre in comparison to females.
• Having a mix of male and female actors in a film means that whoever is watching whether it a male or female they will be able to relate to whoever is in the film and their situations. 

 Media Language

• The title 'The Disappearance of Alice Creed' is written in a red sans serif font- a straight forward and easy font to read. 'Alice Creed' is written in a slightly larger font to draw the audience to her name and so that the audience know she is the main emphasis of the film.
• The poster presents the three main character's names underneath the second slanted picture. The pictures are presented so that the audience looking at the poster may be drawn in by a particular actor or actors. 
• The slant of the pictures distorts them slighting. For example in the photo of the two men aiming their guns the slant of the image distorts the photo and we are not aware of who they're aiming their weapons at. Distortion is a convention of a thriller adding to the overall theme and genre of the poster.
• Red and black are the two main colours used in this film poster. The red could represent violence and evil, while black could symbolise darkness and death. The colours fit the thriller genre nicely as they create a dark and evil mood to the poster.
• The largest image on the poster is the main female character who we assume is Alice Creed. Not only is a female name used in the title but the largest photo is also of a female character this tells us as the audience that this particular character is a big part of the film.
• Black is the background of this poster. It creates a dark mood and in particular it creates a mysterious feel to the image of the main female character. The low key lighting on the female characters face causes the left side of her face to fade into darkness making it mysterious to us as the audience making us wonder what is past all the darkness.
• The lack of setting in the poster doesn't give away any key settings that are in the film. The only setting that is revealed in the poster is the woodland scene that looks like it could be one of the main scenes in the film. However the setting is distorted so we can't see clearly what the scene is like, this could have been done purposely because they don't want to give away too much before the film.
• A quote is presented just above the title 'Twist after twist...a scorching kidnap thriller', giving us a clue that the genre is a thriller and also hints the what the film will be about... a kidnapping. This quote is used to give us clues about the film so that an audience can decide if it's a film they would like to see by reading a small piece of information that the film will be about. 

'44 Inch Chest' Film Poster Research- Candice Tyson

Representation

• There are a number of characters presented on the front of this film poster. The one character is central of the film poster telling us that he must be the main character. He appears quite scruffy and his costume looks like it could be some sort of uniform. His scruffy facial hair makes him look like he doesn't take pride in his appearance and his hair looks greasy- already we have an idea what the main character may be like.
• The other characters presented behind the main character are all looking forward with serious facial expressions leaving us as an audience questioning how each of them are related as no eye contact is present between any of them. Each of the character's costume is formal leaving the central main character as an outcast to the rest of them.
• Only one of the six characters is female showing us as the audience that the film is dominated by the male roles and the female character probably has less of a role in the film. This reminds me of how years ago film and TV used to be quite sexist and males would always have the leading role.
• Age is also represented in this poster. Often people will say as people get older they become more wise and serious. From the facial expressions shown on their faces we can see they are middle aged as their wrinkles are defined and their facial expressions are all very serious.

Narrative

• From what is shown on the film poster it is hard to get the real idea of what the film may be about. The overall theme is quite dark and dingy already give the film a serious tone and mood. In addition to this the actors all have serious facial expression to add to the moody tone. 
• The title '44 Inch Chest' in addition to the main character that is presented larger than the others gives us the idea that it may be him that has a 44 inch chest or something in relation to this.
• The little animation next to the title appears to be a prisoner in handcuffs sitting on a chair. This could be related to the story in some way and have something to do with the characters. The animation is orange in connection to the title also telling us the story may be based around a prisoner with a 44 Inch Chest.

Genre

• The genre for '44 Inch Chest' is said to be a crime drama. We don't get any hints from the poster about its genre apart from the small animation next to the title of what looks like a prisoner. However, another hint we do get is from the bit of text shown above the title that tells the audience the film is 'from the writers of Sexy Beast' which is another crime drama film.
• We know that the film can't be a comedy and we can't see anything to do with romance or horror. So we know it must be another genre that is fairly serious such as a drama, its shown to be serious through the facial expressions of the characters and also the low key lighting.
• Steve Neale's theory of genre is that 'genres are instances of repetition and difference' he also adds that 'difference is absolutely essential to the economy of genre': mere repetition would not attract an audience.
• Neale's theory works with this poster and genre as the genre for this film is both crime and drama. The repetition in this poster for the genre is the low key lighting as you often see this in a crime or drama film poster. However the poster doesn't use every convention of these genres making it different like Neale says. Although it uses repetition it doesn't use it to the full extent as 'mere repetition would not attract an audience'.

Audience

• The characters in the film poster are all middle aged which will immediately attract an older audience as the younger generation will often be attracted to a film with similar aged actors as it is easier to relate to these. The same goes for older people, they will be attracted to a film with older actors as they will be able to relate to these and their experiences in the film.
• The gender I think this film is targeted at I would say is generally a male audience as the majority of the actors are male. This means that male viewers are more likely able to relate to these actors than a female would. Also, because the film consists of more male actors this will probably mean the film has got to do with

Film Language

• The title and text uses sans serif text making the text easy to read and also sets a serious tone to go with the genre and theme of the film. The colour of the title is a bright orange contrasting with the dark background making it stand out instantly and is the first thing that grabs your attention when looking at the poster.
• The title has little lines on each letter to represent a ruler or tape measure, this links with the name of the film '44 inch chest'. The title is overlaid across the main male actor's chest adding to the idea that the film is about him an possibly his '44 inch chest'
• The actors names at the top of the screen are evenly spaced in a white sans serif text which is easy to read as the contrast of the white on the dark background makes it easy to read.
• 'The measure of revenge'  tagline that is shown below the title in a white bold sans serif text is central with the title. The distance between the title and tagline means straight after reading the title you instantly want to read the tagline and this gives us as an audience and insight on what the film may be revolved around.
• Above the title there is some text also written in a white sans serif text that says ' from the writers of Sexy Beast'. This has been added in so that views that were a fan of 'Sexy Beast' will then want to go on and watch this film.

Film Poster Research- Imogen Salmon

Brighton Rock

Representation

• Low-key lighting is used on the characters faces, this is particularly noticeable on the man's face, with half of his face shadowed. This suggests that he is perhaps a noticeably darker, more sinister character. Also his posture standing upright, looking directly into the camera, tilting his head slightly downwards, suggest he is looking down at others, he strives for authority. He is standing in the middle and in front of the other female characters, suggesting they have a lesser role, following traditional views of male dominance, showing a contrast between masculinity and femininity in the 60s when gender equality was continuing to thrive.
• The characters are positioned alongside one another, suggesting there are relationships between them, they are all in formal wear, therefore signifying their relationship may be formal only (for work). This is particularly with the older woman character, as she is buttoned up, as if she wouldn't open up to the other younger characters.

• However the young man and woman both have unbuttoned coat, this may be a signifier that they could have a more personal relationship, or simply that they follow the fashion for the young, in this 60's era having buttons undone, a particular type of shirt and coat collars up. The dark clothing and upturned collar on the man also suggest his 'dark side' as this is often a signifier for a man involved in conflict, and it is a symbol for status, also known to look 'shifty' as if trying to cover their face, perhaps involved in crime. 
• The way the middle-aged woman has her arms positioned as if she is moving suggests she is a hand's on character, she appears independent, wearing a bright red coat and matching lipstick, looking ahead, but not directly at the camera. Appearing to be a good character, perhaps the problem solver, as her facial expression suggests she is worried, frowning.  
• The young woman on the right is looking across at the other characters, she is looking over as if in jealousy or just in a nervous position. She is also positioned slightly cut out of the frame, suggesting she is submissive to the characters beside her.

Narrative

•   Elements of good vs. evil following Levi Straus's binary oppositions theory, with opposites of lighting, both genders and colour vs. darkness is used, conflicts between these elements suggest crime will be a prime factor of the films plot.
• The background image of the pier is positioned in a canted shot, this suggests the setting of the film is one of uncertainty, it is not straightforward, it's a place of crime.This is enforced with the time of day being at night (when most crime and dark happenings occur), dark clouds above the image of the pier signify a storm, as if it is yet to occur in the film and is brewing at this moment in time.
• Also the well known history of Brighton seafront during the 60s suggests what the plot of the film may involve. There was a significant rise in youth gangs in this era, with a high crime rate and drugs being a prevalent problem, the seaside city was one of poverty and crime.

Genre 

• The text 'Thrilling' alone indicates immediately alone without the image that the genre is a thriller.
• The image with the lighting and stern facial expressions of the characters as mentioned earlier also suggest this genre.

Audience 

• Using a character played by Helen Mirren, an extremely well known british actress, who has won a range of awards such as 4 BAFTA's and an academey award for best actress would attract another whole audience, perhaps fans and those interested in her work. 
• Also using the text 'from the producer of Atonment and Eastern Promises' suggests this film is going to be as good and as big as these films, with the same quality producer. This will attract the audience who enjoyed both Atonment and Eastern Promises. 
•  Reviews from 'The Times', 'The Guardian', 'The Daily Mail' etc all suggest the target audience, suggesting readers of the newspapers should watch the film, middle class, well educated adults.
  

Media Language 

• The text is written in a sans serif font, across the poster the text is made simple and clear to read, also written formally, suggesting its older audience. It is displayed around the main image of the characters and above the pier. This positions the text against the dark background of the clouds.

Dead Man's Shoes

Genre

• The text including words such as 'disturbing', 'gripping' and 'thought provoking' suggest the genre of a psychological thriller, the thriller element being disturbing, as they often involve death, crime and gore, and the psychological element relating to mental factors making it thought provoking.
• The title 'Dead Man's Shoes', suggests there is death in the film, this is reinforced by the image of a man/two men (as it is unclear if they are the same person) with various propps which indicate violence, an axe and a gun.
• The colour scheme using red, black and white is simple and effective, the colour red connoting blood, death and danger, against black signifying the darkness.

Narrative

• A journey is suggested by the background of a man mid-stride looking forward as if he is heading somewhere, on the horizon there is simply the outline of trees and no other sign of a human, it is a rural setting.
• A murder is suggested through the propps of weapons, these are made prominant by having a background of red against both weapons of a gun and an axe, making them stand out, suggesting this is significant to the film and there is violence. These weapons suggest action, following Roland Barthes action code.
• The main image is the silhouette of a male character holding an axe, his identity is not shown, perhaps this being a element of the film, remaining a mystery to who he is.
  

Representation

• Masculinity is represented, using weapons, and the clothing the men are wearing, trousers and a jacket, also the rural setting walking/ standing alone shows independence, a common trait in masculine characters.

Audience

• The audience is suggested by the genre of the film being a thriller, the audience is likely to be those who enjoy this genre, and over the age of 15 due to the age rating, it is likely to attract the male audience due to the character profiles, weapons and gore suggested.
• The text 'A Film by Shane Meadows' is written in a different, handwritten font this stands out from the other text, to attract the audience who like Shane Meadows' other work.  

Media Language

• The low angle of the main image of the man, suggests he is authoritative, standing over the camera, however his hand is held out in front of him, as if to help someone, this may suggest that the character is not all bad.
• The font sans serif, displayed boldly across the poster, slanting upwards, again suggesting a journey, perhaps moving on from an event.

The Imposter

Narrative

•  The framing of a corridor opening to what appears to be an airport due to the 'Flight Information sign' suggests there will be a journey in the film, he is travelling somewhere, the rucksack also suggests this.
• The dark image in the foreground, with low key lighting, and a mysterious figure contrasts to the background image of figures facing forward in high key lighting, perhaps representing normality and how this mysterious character is darker than this, and disrupts this perceived equilibrium of normality.

 

Representation

• His costume, wearing a hoody (hood up) and a rucksack, suggest he is a youth. 
• Identity appears to be a common theme among the poster, the way the character is positioned away from the camera suggests his identity may be kept hidden, or uncertain. This creates enigma immediately to the audience, following Roland Barthes enigma code.
• This is supported by the title 'The Imposter', an imposter is a person who pretends to be someone else in order to deceive others, and the hooded figure is clearly hiding his identity in this image, proposing he is the imposter.  
• Also the fact his hood is up, suggests he is hiding his identity to others too.
• The outline of people in the background facing towards him, suggests he is being looked at, an odd one out?

Audience

• The audience is likely to be those interested in watching a serious film, documenting a real-life occurence, therefore this is likely to be a mature audience of 18+.
•  There is an award displayed on the poster from Sundance Film Festival, this festival supports independent film artists to be recognised, therefore those interested in independent film companies would be attracted to watch this film, through displaying this.

Media Language

• Using one main image with the a character positioned centrally taking up the majority of the poster, suggest he is the main character in the film.  
• He is in focus and the background is not, suggesting his importance.
• The white text is positioned around the image against a dark background, both making it clear and the image more prominent.  

Genre

• The colours used, with dark colours in the foreground and light in the background suggest a conflict between good and evil perhaps, using Levi Strauss' binary opposites. 
• The title font has text written vertically on it suggesting it is a secret code, this is a common connotation of thrillers, relating to enigma codes.
• The font is sans serif, suggests it is a serious film, this signifies the documentary element of the film.
• The tagline relating to deception follows the common theme of conflict, this occurs in films involving crime. 

'Violet & Daisy' Poster Research- Charlotte Hudson

This film poster is rather simple, having majority of the poster an image of two girls, which are clearly the main characters of the film and as the film is named 'violet and daisy' then the image suggests that they are Violet and Daisy.

• The font on the poster is Sans Serif, it uses typographic's to dot the 'I''s and they match the colour of the lollypop. This helps to interest the audience as the posters uses colours and images to attract females. However the font is very different to the font in the trailer as it uses block capitals and is serif. But it also uses a heart graphic to show the film is about females and attracts females. 
• All the text is center aligned, and the production block fits perfectly between the females hands, and the line 'too much sugar can kill you' fits perfectly in the dead space between their heads. Therefore all the text is being fitted in the dead spaces between them so that their faces aren't covered.
• The director is mentioned on the poster and this is another way the film grabs the audiences as they may want to watch this film as they have enjoyed the other's he has produced. 
• There are no websites written on the poster, this suggests that they don't need the internet to advertise and interest their audience.

• The poster enhances the colour of their eyes which suggests they could be supernatural, and the line 'too much sugar can kill you' enhances the idea of them being supernatural and dangerous. The prop of the lollies works with the line 'too much sugar can kill you'- the lolly gives the idea or illusion of it being a gun. But the title makes the film seem more female then action/thriller. 
• The low key lighting on the sides of their faces helps to suggest that its a thriller, as it creates shadows on their faces etc unlike a romance when the lighting is bright suggesting happiness. Therefore the lighting expresses something dark and mysterious

Genre and Representation: 

• Action, Comedy and Drama- so this film is a hybrid, this may be the producers way of writing a film that's accessible to different audiences. 
• they don't use a stereotypical view of girls as not every girl does a criminal job, so it goes against female stereotype- like our film we go against stereotypes as we only females characters who are not always the victim. 
• However you could say the poster is a stereotypical view because the poster has them licking lollipops, perhaps sexualising the females, but at the same time i know its a prop like the gun they use. 
• Using hearts on the title, makes the poster stereotypical, as hearts are being associated with girls, therefore they've done it as well. 

Media Language:

• They use low key lighting to create an atmosphere as they are doing actions that are illegal, perhaps also suggests that they want to be hidden from the crimes they are doing. It hints that there is something secretive and dangerous within the film.
• They use a BCU-ECU cutting off half there faces which highlights they want to have their identities hidden.

'Fish Tank' Poster Research - Charlotte Hudson

 

Posters being hollywood blockbusters or uk independent films, all follow similar features when making their posters to advertise their films. 

This poster for 'Fish Tank' also follows some of these key features:

• The last names of Actors are written in bold on the poster- this means the actors have more authority and is also shorter, so there is more room on the poster.
• The main text of the poster is kept away from the image of the actor, and is only shown in the 'dead space' around the poster, but it is placed on the setting (her bedroom) this help to highlight what her life is like by having drawings on her wall, so fits in with the setting. 
• The main text is also much larger than the other font on the page and this helps to grab the audience and is a necessary feature on a film poster as you have to attract your audience fully. They use a san serif font and therefore it is clear to read and doesn't go against the type of film (doesn't change the age or idea e.g. not being more higher class then the film) it also is the same shape text as in the film. The title 'Fish Tank' suggests that there is no escape from her life. The audience can see her life and what she could have but the character can't move out of the life around her. The font is a bright blue and contrasts well with the pink (this may also be a stereotypical idea as light pinks and blues are liked by females more than boys and therefore want to make sure they are fully attracting the right audience).
• I also thought the blue of the writing goes with the idea of being in a 'fish tank' as it is representing water perhaps, this is then enhanced by having the main image of the main character looking through a glass window which suggests entrapment like a fish in a tank. 
• The main image as well as the text and the backdrop is also the main actor being on the poster, this is to help the audience have an idea about what age the actors are and therefore the age the film is about. So the image of the main actor helps to attract the audience they want- this is also helped by having the age certification on the poster as well- this makes sure the audience type is captured. 
• The poster also has to have ratings and comments- this poster has praise from 'Elle' magazine and this is useful as it makes the film appealing to female's as 'Elle' is a female fashion magazine and therefore ties in with the audience type. 
• All film poster have to have the 'billing' or 'production' block, so this poster also has one as it is illegal to have a poster without it. However it is not the same font or colour as the rest of the text and therefore shows that it isn't there to help attract the audience but is just there for legal requirements.
• The setting being used in the poster is very helpful as it helps to give an insight or an idea about the film as it is very run down and graffiti on the walls shows the characters class within society.

Genre and Representation: 

• I think the genre of the film is social realism- this is shown by the females costume, her jewellery suggests of someone being more working class and she is a teenager.
• As the setting is of a house is a realist setting the genre of the film is more enhanced, and is different from the 'Violet and Daisy' poster as it doesn't suggest crime and being hidden. This poster is more about suggesting real life. 
• The social group in the film is working class female gangs, and so females will be interested, i would say females that are interested in learning about different ways of life and not ones that are in 'gangs' themselves. 
• The film and poster represents the type of life of people living in the same area and how deprived they are. 

Media Language:

• The shot is a MS as you can see the character from head to chest and this is so you can see the jewellery she is wearing to show what type of film and character she is. It also means you can see the setting and this also helps to tell you more about the characters. Therefore this type of shot is very effective.

'An Education' Poster Research- Charlotte Hudson

• The font of the title is a bigger and bolder version of the credits at the beginning of the film. This is to make the poster relate to the film more, instead of being completely different to the film. However, the poster and film backdrops are opposite- the film, black with white writing on top and the poster- white with black writing. The title is the biggest writing on the poster and this is to help grab their audience as they walk past, so people watch the film. But the writing in the credits of the film is much smaller because the poster has brought the audience in.
• The title of the film and the line 'A film my Lone Scherfig' are the only two bits of writing in black, and they are also the boldest bits of writing this is to really grab the audience because 'Lone Scherfig' has made other films and therefore they are trying to grab the same audience that are interested by his other films- hence why its in bold and black so people know they may like the film because its made by a similar producer to others they like. 
• This poster seems like it is advertising more of an independent film than a big Hollywood film because there aren't ratings by newspapers or other film magazines etc. Instead there are two websites- this is because they are mainly relying on the internet to advertise and interest their audiences. 
• The poster uses the dead white space at the bottom to put the title, a line and the production block in as the production block is a legal requirement. This also means that the picture of the main characters aren't written over and are fully seen. 
• The top of the poster, the actors names are written the same as the credits at the start of the film, they are smaller than the title etc but are the same colour and width as the credits. They are written on the darker parts of the image so it isn't covering the character. The poster also advertises and lets the audience know who the film is by as it is written by the same that wrote 'About a boy' and 'High Fidelity'- this is another way to interest the audience. However the writing isn't as bold as the 'A film by Lone Scherfig' because the producer of the film is more important the author. 
• All the writing on the poster is center aligned, apart from the section about the author of the books as that is aligned to the right, this is because all the rest of the poster is mainly advertising the film, whereas that little section is also advertising the books. 

Media Language:

• Their costumes are upper class, this works with the film title 'education' because only upper class used to have an education so it suggests that the film was set more in the past. Their costumes suggest this as the female is wearing a dress and the male is in a suite- this used to be a typical dress in the past. 
• The camera work is high angle, with the two characters laying on the floor, the body language of the female suggests that they have a relationship with her hand touching his face, but their facial expressions don't suggest romance- perhaps the education of the film is 'love'? The costume of the females 'heart' necklace is placed neatly on her chest directly in the middle and this grabs the audience attention, this helps to enhance the idea of the lesson of the film is love.  
• The camera work means the female is more in the frame, which suggests she is more of the main character than the male

 Genre and Representation:

• I think the genre of the film is romance, this is highlighted by having the two main characters close together, with her arm on his face.
• The lighting, is a bright lighting suggesting happiness (not dark low key lighting to suggest fear or darkness)
• The mise en scene of the 'heart' necklace on the female suggests love, and therefore suggests love as being a key genre within the film.
• The costumes in the film suggests an upper class social group, and that would be the same sort of audience that want to watch the film.
