'Leave Me' - Mae Webb

Leave Me

2009

Director: Dustin Ballard

Found: Vimeo

Summary: A recent widower deals with his grief through his wife's broken camera.

Why I chose this: I really like the way this uses still images and moving images together in a creative way.

Narrative
This follows Todorov's theory

1. Equilibrium -  a man mourns for his dead wife

2.  Disruption - he is pulled into the camera and is gone from real life camera

3. Confrontation - He realises he is in his wife's pictures and sends his dad a message through pointing to scroll through to a picture where he can see his wife again

 4. Resolution - he is reunited with his wife and sends his dad a message on his hand saying 'Leave me' as he wants to stay in the

1. New equilibrium -  his dad accepts he is gone and frames a picture of him saying leave me to remember him by.

Audience

  • This film was found on the website Vimeo, and from looking at the comments (out of 288) the majority of them seem to be male. This surprised me as I would have assumed this film would have appealed more to a female audience due to the fact it has hints of romance in. However, this may be due to the target audience of Vimeo.
