The 5 Key Concepts for our film- All Of Us

Representation - Mae Webb

Social class - We have represented social class in our film jealous, steals jewellary
Gender - bitchiness
Stereotypes - female antagonist, also female victim. Females being bitchy

Narrative - Imogen Salmon
  • We used a hybrid of both a circular and multi-strand plot line, this was in order to entice the audience into watching the whole short film, in order for it to make sense.

  • The circular plot resulted in the opening graveyard scene appearing as the final scene also, this suggested these shots were at the present time and the scenes to follow were of the past which led to this event at the graveyard. The reasoning behind this was that in the final scene, more was discovered, as after becoming more aware about the character Rebecca, throughout the short film, the audience discover she is in fact watching the grieving mother at the graveyard the whole time, positioned behind a tree.
    Opening scene
    Final scene
  • The multi-strand element to the plot is the two scenes of flashbacks of the friendship of the two girls, against the interview scene. The flashbacks worked parallel against the plot of the interview scenes, this was in order to represent how their relationship was different in real-life (in the flashbacks) to how it was being described as in the interview, showing the depth of Rebecca's lies.

  • The narrative was unrestricted, as the audience remained omniscient throughout, knowing more than the characters (e.g. the interviewer believed the lies).
  •  Plot vs. Story (Bordwell & Thompson) -
The story was that the character Rebecca had been accused and also held for her friend Louise's death, Lousie's mother had accused her, resulting in Rebecca being held for something she persists she didn't do.

The plot only showed the interview resulting in Rebecca's release, the character leaving the premises, the bullying scenes leading up to the murder, and the murder itself.
  • Todorov- the short film followed the stages of this theorist primarily, but it was disorganised with the stage of confrontation occurring before the disruption instead, also the resolution was a resolution to the character Rebecca, although it was not the justice deserved and resulted in a criminal being freed, so could be interpreted as further disruption.

Equilibrium- Grieving mother at graveyard
Confrontation- Rebecca being questioned/interviewed on the events leading up to her friends death

Disruption- Rebecca being shown to be the cause of Louise's death
Resolution- Rebecca being released

New equilibrium- Mother at graveyard in fact joined by Rebecca as if she is out to kill again???

  • Propp- False Witness didn't follow the typical character conventions of propp, other than having a villain who was clearly Rebecca.
  • Levi Strauss- the conflicts which occured were good vs.evil, the police and innocent victim of Lousie were 'good', although the police unknowingly released a criminal, whereas Rebecca the murderer was 'bad'.

Audience - Candice Tyson
  • The target audience we have chosen for our film 'False Witness' is very similar to the audience we targeted last year as we felt this was particularly successful. We have chosen to target female teenage girls and have done this by using female teenage actors in our film. We feel that by using these actors, other teenage girls will be able to relate and put themselves into the shoes of the characters in the film.
  • The other aspect that was quite important when targeting our audience was age. The actors we have used in our film are 17. We used these actors so that girls of this age can relate to the characters and the issue raised within the film(bullying).
  • In the film jealousy is a big issue for the one character Becca and leads to the extreme outcome of murdering her best friend Louise. As the film presents the jealousy in an extreme way we felt the topic of murder should target older teens rather than a younger generation as this is something that could possibly shock a younger generation and could be a topic they don't understand. We felt females 15+ would be a perfect target audience for our film as people this age and above will be mature enough to understand the topic and take the matter of bullying seriously.
 Genre- Charlotte Hudson
  • Like last year, we made our film a thriller genre. However this year we made ours more hybrid as we merged the crime genre as well.
