Idea for editing the interview scene - Mae Webb

During an episode of Eastenders that I watched last week they had an interview scene at the police station where they questioned a character about a murder that had taken place, this is very similar to what happens in our film and I really liked some of the editing techniques they used during this.

The interview was being filmed and they showed the footage off of the tape on a screen and it showed different angles etc of the character with 'Walford Police Station' and the date to show when the footage was filmed. They had different shots (a medium close up and an extreme long shot) to show the setting and the character being interviewed.

I thought this was a creative way of showing the interview and made it more tense as the footage has a certain effect that makes it slightly distorted. I think that when editing we could play around with the effects in Final Cut Pro on some of our footage in the interview room to try and get this effect of the recorded tapes being shown as it makes it more visually interesting and will make the scene look more authentic and show how our character is really being questioned and is under pressure to lie.

Here is a video of the episode I watched and the shots that I was influenced by and thought were effective are from 23:36 - 26:00

  1. That is a really good idea and could really add something extra to the film. It also allows you to overcome any lighting issues as it all becomes part of a tape i suppose. Would you have enough variety in shots to do this - did the Eastenders use a lsot of high angle shots? It sis certainly worth discussing.
